Faculty Development and Learner Support (FDLS) Fellowship
12-month secondment | 0.4 WTE | From August 2026
NHS England South West (NHSE-SW) and the Postgraduate Medical Education Office are offering an exciting Faculty Development and Learner Support (FDLS) Fellowship for Resident Doctors interested in leadership, education and system-wide improvement.
This 12-month secondment provides 0.4 WTE (2 days per week) protected time to work closely with senior leaders and contribute to projects that improve Resident Doctor experience across the South West. Fellows will work collaboratively across the FDLS portfolio, including Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I), Professional Support & Wellbeing (PSW), Faculty Development and SuppoRTT.
The fellowship offers valuable leadership experience and the opportunity to develop skills aligned to national and regional priorities, supporting future clinical leadership roles.
There are four fellowship posts available, starting from August 2026 (subject to employer and Training Programme Director approval). Fellows will return to their training programme at the end of the secondment, subject to satisfactory ARCP progression.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be a GMC registered doctor
- Be in higher specialty training in Secondary Care (ST3 or above)
- Be training within the South West geographical footprint of Severn or Peninsula Postgraduate Medical Education Office programmes
- Hold an Outcome 1 at the point of application
Selection Process
Selection will be via interview. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to deliver a five-minute presentation (topic to be confirmed following shortlisting).
