Initial appointments at ST1 level will normally be in one of: Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust or Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

Doctors in Training will spend ST1 and ST2 years in the same Trust. At ST3 level there is an expectation of experience at one of the smaller District General Hospitals (North Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, South Devon Healthcare Foundation Trust) where there is a requirement for a greater level of responsibility and, in addition, Level 3 Neonatology at Plymouth Hospital NHS Trust.

At ST4/ST5 Doctors in Training will be located in a different Trust to their ST1/ST2 years. They will be based in Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust or Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

Doctors in Training may be required to rotate to North Devon NHS Trust or South Devon Healthcare Foundation Trust depending on their need for Speciality experience such as Community or General Paediatrics.

At year ST6/ST7 Doctors in Training will be given the opportunity to rotate to Severn Deanery for sub-specialty experience. Some trainees may wish not to do so and instead continue their training in the Peninsula.

Appropriate sub-specialty experience may be available for these Doctors in Training in Neonatology and Community Paediatrics. Six out of eight ST6 Doctors in Training are likely to rotate to Severn whilst two out of eight ST6 Doctors in Training are likely to remain in the Peninsula.

Doctors in Training will be required to complete their ST8 year in a Trust in the South West Peninsula. Placements will take into account sub-specialty interests of these trainees and the South West Peninsula is currently piloting a sub-specialty interest module in Oncology & Child Mental Health.

There are plans to pilot further modules in Diabetes, Epilepsy and HDU. The Post CCT 6 month grace period placement may be different to the ST8 placement depending on the service needs & the vacancies of the Trusts.
